Board of Fire Control
Welcome to the State Board of Fire Control. It was established in 1947 and is governed by RSA 153:2.
The intent of the board is to establish a uniform procedure, through RSA 541-A, to acquire the information that the board will consider in deciding, in conjunction with the state fire marshal, whether the state fire code described in RSA 153:1,VI-a will be amended by the adoption of a rule that is exempt from RSA 541-A as described in RSA 153:5,I.
What We Do
- Adopt jointly with the state fire marshal, and with the approval of the commissioner, pursuant to RSA 153:5, I, amendments to the state fire code described in RSA 153:1, VI-a;
- Adopt rules pursuant to RSA 541-A, relative to procedures of the board's operation;
- Review and assess the application of the state fire code and recommend legislation to modify the requirements of the state fire code;
- Act in a continuing advisory capacity to the state fire marshal on any matters pertaining to his/her duties pursuant to RSA 153.
Meetings
- We meet 4 times per year and when called for by the chair or a board vote.
- An annual meeting is held in March to elect a vice-chair.
- The board may appoint committees, who can make recommendations but not take final action on behalf of the board.
Members & Structure
The board has 12 members appointed by the governor, with the advice and consent of the council.
Members are appointed for terms of 5 years. One member is designated as chairperson by the governor.
